_HSX Lingo #1: Types Of HSX Stocks The holiday season and the new year usually bring in a new wave of players who need some help getting started. This article contains a listing of the different types of stocks offered at HSX with a description of how each one works. _ HSX has many different types of stocks and each of them behave differently. Some are based on box office performance while others measure themes and/or trends and still others are based on one time events The following list was made to help you understand the different types of stocks offered at HSX: Moviestocks These are stocks that are based on movies. This is the most popular stock type and the main focus of HSX. The price of a moviestock represents the amount of box office HSX players think a movie will do in its first four weekends of release. 1mill box office = $1 in price (if a movie did 20mill in box office it would be worth $20 in price). Starbonds These are stocks that are based on actors/actresses and directors. Starbond are more predictable than moviestocks but are a little more complicated to understand. A starbond's 'TAG' represents the average box office made by the actor/actress/director's last five movies. Funds These are ports that are run by experienced HSX Players that must follow a certain theme and/or rules for investing. Players can invest in the funds and make a little profit when the funds make a profit. Funds come in two types: Studio Funds (can only invest in projects that their particular studio is involved in) and Themed Funds (each fund has a theme and a set of rules for investing which are listed on the fund stock page). Derivatives These stocks are all one time events. HSX offers many types of derivatives throughout the course of a year: TV Stocks HSX issues stocks for freshman (new) TV shows (at the beginning of each season) and the price of the stock is related to the number of original episodes shown. Call/Puts HSX sets a 'strike price' (a target) and you profit by guessing and investing how much the actual box office for opening weekend will be above or below the strike price. Opening Weekend Stocks HSX sets a 'target' amount and you profit by investing whether you believe the movie will make more or less then the target Blockbuster Warrants HSX sets a 'strike price' (a target) and you profit by guessing and investing how much the actual box office for the first twelve weekends will be above or below the strike price. NomiOptions Before the Academy Awards nominees are announced each year, HSX releases stocks of potential nominees, players can make a profit by predicting (and investing) in who they think will secure a nomination (and who they think will not). AwardOptions Once the Academy Award nominees are announced, HSX issues stocks and HSX Players can make a profit by investing in the people who they think will end up winning the award (and who they think will not). Others - HSX has issued a number of other derivatives over the years. (American Idol Stocks, Survivor Stocks, World Cup Stocks, Grammy Award Stocks that were all based on the outcome of real life events). The rules for these stocks are listed on each stock page.
